Tips
for improving computer performance is usually concentrated on
streamlining and maintaining the operating system, increase the speed
with new RAM, video upgrades and so forth. However,
you can give your machine with the speed and reliability upgrades is
easy with the help of a vacuum cleaner and a soft brush. A
buildup of dust in the vents, fan components and ruins your engine the
ability to remain calm, and when the computer is running at high
temperature, it went slower.
In the worst case scenario, your card, power supply units and the motherboard can fail completely. On dirt, a more basic level and dust can gum the parts that move and affect performance.
In the worst case scenario, your card, power supply units and the motherboard can fail completely. On dirt, a more basic level and dust can gum the parts that move and affect performance.
Here, we will show you how to physically clean your PC, keyboard and monitor. As a bonus, we will also tell you how to keep your computer dirt-free after you have fettled it. You will add years of life for your hardware and enhance performance.
Before you begin, remember that clean PC is a serious job which - depending on how far you want to take it - will require some technical skill. As a gauge, if you feel comfortable with fitting a new memory or upgrade the video card in your PC, you should be able to complete all the steps.
Gear up, power down
Start by assembling your tools. You will need a brush, small soft - the kind you might use for a painting of a window or door frame. Make-up brushes are also ideal. Go for the best quality you can afford, because the economy that often tend to shed hair.
A can of compressed air, which should be available from retailers and computer stores the hardest, is also required. Make sure you have a gentle, general cleaning cloth to the outside of your machine and computer cables.
Void
Last important tool is a full-sized vacuum cleaner with nozzle attachment, or handheld device is fully charged. Some other tools might be useful, but not required. For example, an anti-static bracelet will prove useful once you open the computer.
You also may want to use switch cleaner, a spray solvent that eat dust and can be used at ports and contacts. This tool can be purchased cheaply from Maplin or larger computer retailers.
Turn off the computer and unplug from the mains. If you're already using it, you should leave it to stand for at least 30 minutes before you begin the cleaning routine. This will give the internal components a chance to cool, and also reduce risk of electric shock from stored charge any potentially injure you or damage your computer.
Carefully unplug all peripherals and input devices, then set the cable to one side, because you will give them special attention.
Place your computer on a raised surface - an empty desk or table will do well. Trying to spring clean with a computer on the floor or in other awkward places will only make things more difficult. You are now ready to begin.
step 1
Start with the easy part - cleaning the exterior of the computer. Using a vacuum cleaner hose or handheld vac, remove dust from vents and any USB looks, video and network ports. Dust can enter the port is rarely used, increasing the risk of damage.
Be careful when working near the fans, because it causes them to spin in the wrong direction can damage their operations.
When the dust excess have been removed, wipe down the outside carefully this case. Is there any dirt sticking in there you can use a very damp cloth or a surface little household cleaner to get rid of it. Be careful not to go near the harbor or ventilation with liquid.
Now it's time to open your computer and start some serious training. With most modern computers, you should be able to remove the side panel using the catch, but on older systems you may need to undo a few screws first. Your goal is to get the case so you can see the damage caused by months of dirt.
Inside and out
You have now reached the point of your first decisions. If you're happy with the technical aspects of computer maintenance, proceed with caution. If you lack confidence, we recommend to skip this bit and just dust the interior.
step 2
If you feel brave, wear your anti-static bracelet. If you do not have one, touch something metal like a radiator to release any static built before you begin.
To clean the inside of the case and about the motherboard as effectively as possible, its best to eliminate the additional card. This can include a video and audio, network and port extensions. You can also take care of memory chips, but only if you love to do it.
Place the removed components on a clean surface and clear. If you're a completist who wants to have a PC without a stain, you can also remove all the internal connector cable. Its best to leave the power supply cable - led the yellow, red and black is inserted into the drive and other components - in place. IDE ribbon cable, SATA cable and audio connectors can be revoked and set aside.
Dust buster
You may be amazed at the amount of dust that can accumulate in your PC case. It's not uncommon to find a spider's web 'next to the ball of fur and general detritus. With the case open and open, you can vacuum most of what was built up by using a hose from your cleaners.
Be careful when you get near a fan, and avoid touching the elbow or your PC components with the nozzle.
When you have removed all the dust that is easy to suck out, it's time to switch to a brush and a can of compressed air. Starting from the top of the case, use a soft brush swish for any dust from the motherboard and slots.
step 5
Compressed air can then be used to remove more stubborn dirt, but make sure you only use it in very short bursts and follow up with brush strokes, the dust moves out of the case. Short attacks is very important, because nothing else can introduce moisture to your system, possibly causing a short circuit.
Now remove the case down the bare area with a clean cloth and dry, be careful to avoid the electricity. Always use a brush to it - you risk leaving the conductive material opposite.
If there are particular areas of stubborn dirt - more likely if you are a smoker - you have a choice. If dirt was in the interior case, you can use a small amount of surgical spirit on a cloth to wipe-free in this place with caution. If ground-in soil is in electrical components, though, you may do more harm than good to try to remove it. You just have to live with it.
Side projects
As an advanced user, you may want to finish your spring clean with a bit of light repair, especially if you've seen a noisy fan or two in your system recently. Case fans are usually closed systems, with internal lubrication should last a lifetime. Sometimes, dirt can compromise the system, lubricating oils absorb or allow to dry. The result can be noisy, hot computer.
Fan
In this case, you can try a drop of sewing machine oil in the middle of the fan. You'll find items on Amazon for around £ 3 a bottle. You must remove the fan from the case before applying the lubricant, but it's not a difficult job.
Carefully disconnect the power cord from the motherboard first, then remove the screws from each corner of the fan. Pull the fan is free from this case. In the midst of a fan, there should be a sticker. Peel the back carefully and put it somewhere safe.
You should see the rubber or plastic plug under the sticker. Delete this and add one drop of oil to the coil. That's all I need to get things moving smoothly again. Replace the plug and sticker, and then reinstall the fan carefully on your computer.
Reassembly
Now it is time to return to the components that you take out of the PC and left to one side. Clean them individually with a soft brush, wiping away any excess dust. Hold the section by the edge, careful not to touch the contacts.
If you have a blower brush - a tool commonly used in cleaning the camera - this will be an excellent tool for the task. If the kit had been cleaned, you can replace the PC.
step 7
Make sure the card and memory chips are properly seated first, and if you remove all the cables before, wipe them clean with a dry cloth and return them. Have one final check to make sure they are connected firmly and correctly.
Remove all cleaning materials or obstacles before closing the case. Allow the system to sit for 30 minutes, just in case all that blow and wipe any moisture is introduced.
Finally, connect a keyboard, mouse, monitor and power cable, with no other peripherals attached. Then turn on the machine to test that it still works. If all has gone well, you should be able to enjoy a more calm, cool and clean PCs.
